This is sort of my first post with a voiceover… except really it’s a recording I made of thoughts whirring round my head that I transcribed for this post. So it’s a less a voice over and more a… text under? Anyway, enjoy!
We have outsourced so much of our power to gurus and influencers and people with this artificial authority that we've dressed them up with. No real qualifications, just their own self-belief and our willingness to collaborate in that belief.
And I don't believe in that authority.
Now look, I don't believe in any particular religion. I don't believe in a god or a goddess. I believe that what we as humans beings have been reaching for with the word “god” is some understanding of what drives the universe.
What spark ignited the Big Bang? What keeps the Earth turning? What keeps all the other planets in orbit? What keeps the stars in the sky? What keeps the tides flowing?
Energy is a force that cannot be destroyed and cannot be created. So where does it come from?
That really is the great mystery of the universe. What is this power that drives us all, that is breathing life into us, into our planet?
And that, I believe, is god, or what we call god as we clumsily grope for a word for it.
That force is inside all of us.
Energy is what powers every single one of us, and every animal, and every tree, and every flower, everything living on this planet. Anything living on any other planet.
Energy, that life force of the universe, is in everything.
So we are all gods and goddesses.
We are all manifestations of the divine.
We are all that life force of the universe put into motion. Given bodies to move around.
So none of us should really have any power over the others.
Of course we need some structure to our lives, and we need experts. We need guides. We need people who know about things that other people don't know about. But that shouldn't give people power over one another. That gives them a responsibility to help others.
But we lost sight of that somewhere along the way when we became obsessed with money and status. And so instead of looking for responsibility from these people, we gave them power. And that led to more people wanting this cloak of authority, this idea that they were special, that they were better.
So more and more people tried to claim it. And now they claim it for nothing. Not even necessarily any expert knowledge, just confidence. Enough swagger to convince other people to buy into it.
And so we give away our own power and our own authority over our own lives, and we let other people tell us how we should be living and that they hold the key, the secret, to our healing, to our success, to our ability to be happy and fully who we are.
And that is nonsense.
Nobody can possibly have more power over your happiness and you expressing who you are than you can.
So it's time that we took that power over our own lives back and understood that we are our own healers. We are our own guides through life.
We are the ones who dictate our own direction.
We can look to other people for learning, for guidance, for support. But we are masters of our own destiny. And we have to take that ownership and that responsibility.
Otherwise, we will never be able to live fully embodied, rich, and fulfilled lives.
